About Stacey Dana
I am a licensed psychotherapist in private practice. For the last eleven years, I have worked with individual adults and couples from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and class backgrounds on a variety of personal and professional issues. In addition to my private psychotherapy practice, I am also a mental health consultant providing services to major international law firms and counseling services to attorneys through the State Bar of California's Lawyer Assistance Program. I also speak on various mental heath/wellness topics to lawyers through law firm, bar association, and networking events.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent more than two decades working as an attorney specializing in litigation at firms in New York City and San Francisco. While certain aspects of practicing law appealed to me, what I enjoyed most, tellingly, were the human interactions. As someone who has always been psychologically-minded and drawn to the human experience, I was somewhat able to satisfy my desire to work in more nurturing and meaningful ways by mentoring junior colleagues, volunteering as an attorney with the San Francisco Bar Association's Family Law Clinic, and mediating business, family, and civic disputes with various volunteer programs. These experiences were gratifying and served to reinforce my desire to work with clients in a much deeper and transformative way. It is a gift to finally be engaged in work that I love and was meant to do.
Interestingly, my prior legal experience actually enhances my current work as a counselor and consultant. The very skill set honed from years of practicing law - critical /analytical thinking, intense focus, and attention to minute detail - helps me help my clients in working through the challenges they are facing. Having spent significant time in the legal world, I can completely relate to the professional and personal challenges that many in today's workforce endure.
In addition to holding a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from San Francisco State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Temple University School of Law, I am a member of the New York State Bar (Ret.) and the California Bar (currently on voluntary inactive status) and am also a trained mediator.
