Counseling and consulting For Attorneys, Law firms, And Others In High Stress Fields
Counseling for Lawyers and Other Professionals
Today’s professional environment is grueling. Demands are unrelenting, deadlines can be nearly impossible to meet, the stress is constant, the margin for error is extremely low, and work-life balance is often nonexistent. It is no surprise that many of today’s professionals are experiencing anxiety, depression, burnout, relationship strain, and/or engaging in substance use and self-sabotaging behavior.
As a former litigation attorney for over twenty years, I relate to many of these issues. (Read more about why depression is so common among lawyers. Many of the reasons provided are not unique to lawyers.) Sometimes, just having a place where you can safely let your guard down and address some of these challenges can be extremely helpful. In our confidential sessions, we will also work together to develop healthier coping strategies around stress and work pressures, set healthier boundaries, increase focus and productivity, battle burnout, and explore possible career transitions when appropriate.
Consulting for Law Firms
Substance use, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges are rampant in the legal profession, and COVID-19 only exacerbated these problems. As the industry is in the process of returning to the office and/or implementing a hybrid model for work, it is eminently clear, either way, that the work force that left will not be the work force that returns. Given attorneys' ethical duty to provide competent and diligent representation, the need for prioritizing wellness and mental health in your firm is more pressing than ever. Such initiatives can reduce exposure to malpractice claims and attrition while increasing productivity, efficiency, work quality, and overall employee contentment and engagement.
Consultations vary based on firms' needs and can focus on creating a better mental health environment, identifying the signs of someone struggling with mental health/substance abuse challenges, and navigating difficult conversations when a colleague may not be performing competently. On-site counseling is also available.
Speaking Engagements
I speak on various mental health/wellness topics to lawyers through law firm, bar associations, and networking events.
